An Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on Tuesday remanded a 47-year-old man, Premie Imafidon, for allegedly slapping his wife to death. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.O. Ajibade, remanded Imafidon in Ikoyi Prisons and ordered that the case file should be sent to the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice. Ajibade adjourned the case until Sept. 3The accused is facing a charge for murder.Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Maria Dauda, told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 15, at 7.00 p.m., at No. 25, Apata St., Agege, Lagos.She said that the accused had slapped his wife Hope, 42, which resulted to her death. The offence contravened Section 224 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 224 stipulates death sentence for murder.

The governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom says the institution of impeachment proceedings against him by eight members of the state assembly would have been impossible were Nigeria not ashithole country. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State to pay workers salaries in the state, saying “we are dying of hunger.”Speaking at a protest,the NLC chairman, Onuh Edoka, who spoke on behalf of organised labour, said it was painful that many workers are still been owed salaries, ranging from six to sixteen months; adding that those mostly affected are local government workers. ”Labour also chided the state government for its habit of breaking agreements reached with it, as it urged Governor Bello to urgently address the plight of workers inthe central state.Labour condemned the farmers/herders clashes going on in parts of the state, and urged the state government to tackle the issue of unemployment and insecurity which it said have thrown the state into uncertainty. Police in Kisumu have arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly killing his step-brother’s girlfriend. The suspect, Joseph Ayomo stabbed 21-year-old Beverline, a Kenyatta University student, to death on Wednesday at 3am in Migosi Estate.Beverline, a Third Year Hospitality and Tourism student, was stabbed in the stomach and head. The suspect also allegedly stabbed his 32-year-old step-brother, Evans Otieno, in the back and chest. Otieno was rushed to Avenue Hospital for treatment. Health officers at the facility say he is in a stable condition. Ayomo had stayed at Otieno’s place for three weeks, as he lookedfor employment.Central OCPD, Joseph Kiptum, who confirmed the incident said it remains unclear why the suspect killed his brother’s girlfriend.Ayomo allegedly raped Beverline before killing her.
